Hello All, we have a Rijskmonument house in Zierikzee ( I can provide the number of the monument if that helps ). The image below is the front of the house where we want to do the following works : repair if needed the wooden window and door frames of the ground floor without any changes to the aspect, shape or profiles. Clean and repaint the facade in the same colour as existing. Remove the single glass 5mm for the ground floor 2 big windows ( in total 12 panels ) and replace that with Fineo vacuum glass - 8mm thickness. For the entry door which has a glass panels above with an organic pattern - we will not change that window but install a glass panel from Fineo on the inside of the door, also to maximize the energy efficiency. Overall, for the big windows the glass will be installed in the same frame with the same appearance as before. For the work we obtained a quote from a reputable company from Zierikzee specialised in heritage restauration with very good work. In practical terms , what we want is to increase the thermal performance for the ground floor windows, repair if needed the wood frames ( work done by the contractor ) and paint the element that are painted in the same colour. The work will not change at all the appearance of the house. The questions we have are : given that employed a specialist that works on monument and that we are not changing at all the appearance of the house ( except installing new glass ) , Do we need a building permit ? If not where can we get a definitive answer that will provide us piece of mind for the future? If we need building permit , what are the steps to obtain one for a monument building like this ? Looking forward to answers on the topics above ! Many thanks and a beautiful day to everyone ! Kind regards, Florin

Hi Florin, At first, you need a permit. Not only for the appearance but mostly because of the building physics. Moisture an damp. etc. The Gemeente and the RCE want to assure it happens on the right way with the right materials, etc. Wil the right advisor the permit should'nt be a problem. If you have more questions or if you need help with the permit, feel free to ask.

Hello Florin, I agree with Wesley and want to help you out, as I am the DUMO-advisor of the municipality of Schouwen-Duiveland. I am helping out owners of registered monuments to make their buildings sustainable. It is a subsidised activity, so costs for the owner are limited. If you are interested, please contact me.

Hello Bernard, Many thanks for your answer ! Of course I am interested! I am in the process of making a package with drawings for a submission. It would be fantastic if we can meet and discuss ? Any time will suit us as this is very important. We contacted NORM for a quote but we would like to know more about the scope of works , what can we do, if we are doing the right thing and about the process in general. Please let me know if we can meet and discuss ? Kind regards, Florin
